What is a Golden Cicada Shell?

Golden Cicada Shell is listed in the Inventory menu under the Key Items tab. These can be exchanged for a reward in the Hidden Village.

All Golden Cicada Shell Locations

Golden Cicada Shell 1

The first one of the Golden Cicada Shells can be found in Two Chivalrous Heroes after beating Zhuyan. It's up on the wooden ramparts to the left. As you enter the County Office, just after you pick up the Dragon Vein Crystal, go up the slope to the left. Avoid the soldier that rolls a log down towards you, then jump on to the left here to reach it.

Golden Cicada Shell 2

The second Golden Cicada Shell is found in The Valley of Crying Wraiths, which is the fourth main mission. As you make your way up the hill after taking the second blocked flag from the Chang Gui, you'll enter a red cave. Before this, you'll see a bridge that goes over to the right, just above you and a Warlock will be standing on it. Head towards the red cave, but jump up the platform on the left, to reach the Warlock and the bridge. Cross the bridge, then drop down when you reach the hole.

Golden Cicada Shell 3

The third Golden Cicada Shell is found in The Demon Fort of the Yellow Heaven, which is the fourth main mission. When you reach the second Battle Flag, after going through the first cave, you'll be able to see it in the distance, on a roof (as marked above). You'll have to make your way around the village, to the right of the house, then climb up to reach the roof just before you reach the next cave.

You'll be given a prompt by Sun Jian, to look carefully and you'll find something around the area, when you're in the right place.

Golden Cicada Shell 4

The fourth Golden Cicada Shell is found In Search of the Immortal Wizard, which is the fifth main mission. After the Shuigui area, you'll reach a Battle Flag and see a sh*tieshou demon. Follow the path up the left, and into the cave. Continue on, until you reach the first campfire. Then, when you reach the tree trunk on the left, turn around and walk up it. You'll be able to see the Golden Cicada Shell just above the campfire.

Golden Cicada Shell 5

The fifth Golden Cicada Shell is found in The Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch, which is the sixth main mission. From the first Battle Flag, you'll go into a room with multiple floors, cells and purple water at the bottom of it. On the other side, from where you enter, there is a bridge bathed in light.

advertisem*nt

When you reach the bridge, you need to go down the set of stairs. Head for the cell on the far right to find the Golden Cicada Shell.

Golden Cicada Shell 6

The sixth Golden Cicada Shell is also found in The Fall of the Corrupted Eunuch. This one can be found at the end of the level, before the boss fight. It's located on the roof above the final Battle Flag. To get to it, face away from the Battle Flag, and the doors to the boss fight, then head to the right. There are crates you can scale here, to get onto the rooftop to the left of them. Turn around and face back towards the boss room, to see the Golden Cicada Shell on the rooftop.

Golden Cicada Shell 7

The seventh Golden Cicada Shell is found The Battle of Hulaoguan Pass, which is the seventh main mission. When you reach this Battle Flag, drop down into the passage below.

Run all the way to the right, to find the Golden Cicada Shell at the end.

Golden Cicada Shell 8

The eighth Golden Cicada Shell can be found during the start of Centuries of Glory Burned Away. From the second Battle Flag, go left. Here you can find a Tablet. Then you need to continue going to the left and into the alleyway. There will be an archer on the right and a soldier walking up and down. Look left, and you'll see a sh*tieshou Demon. Continue panning your camera to the left, to find the Golden Cicada Shell hidden behind the fire.

Golden Cicada Shell 9

The ninth Golden Cicada Shell can also be found during Centuries of Glory Burned Away. When you've got past the courtyard with the Dragon and its electricity, you'll come to a bridge with water running underneath. A Marking Flag can be seen on a broken platform. Just underneath this, to the left, is an alcove where the Golden Cicada Shell is.

Golden Cicada Shell 10

The tenth Golden Cicada Shell can be found at the start of Darkness over the Hanshui River, which is the ninth main mission. From the first Battle Flag, go towards the water and then go right. You should see a Shuigui in the distance.

Head toward the mermaid, slay it and then go to the furthest point you can go beyond her. There's a boat on the left, if you jump on this and look down you'll see the Golden Cicada Shell.

Golden Cicada Shell 11

The eleventh Golden Cicada Shell can be found quite early on in Tyrant's Final Banquet, which is the tenth main mission. After the first courtyard, you'll be invaded and then go into a second courtyard with a Battle Flag you need to take back from the demons.

The Golden Cicada Shell is on top of the entrance, so use the rooftops along the left side to be able to climb up to reach it.

Golden Cicada Shell 12

The twelfth Golden Cicada Shell can also be found in Tyrant's Final Banquet, towards the end of the level. After a fight against a Fengxi demon, you'll be able to claim your last Battle Flag. Rather than go up the stairs behind it, go to the right (or opposite of where you entered the mini-boss battle) to find an area with Chang Guis. As soon as you enter this area, look to the building on the right, this is where you want to climb up to grab the next Golden Cicada Shell.

Golden Cicada Shell 13

The thirteenth Golden Cicada Shell can be found in War's Flames Blaze Fiercely, which is the eleventh main mission. After the corrupted third Battle Flag is taken, you'll make your way towards another red bridge by following the path. As you reach the bridge, go to the right instead of over it.

At the end of this pathway, there's a chest with the Golden Cicada Shell inside. It's guarded by a wolf and a pole-wielding enemy.

Golden Cicada Shell 14

The fourteenth Golden Cicada Shell can also be found in War's Flames Blaze Fiercely. As you enter the sewers for the second time, you'll have to walk past two statues that will come to life and attack you. After this, you'll enter a room where you can see two statues and a chest above. The Golden Cicada Shell is inside this chest, and only the statue on the left will come alive and attack you.

Golden Cicada Shell 15

The fifteenth Golden Cicada Shell can be found towards the start of The Way of the Warrior, which is the twelfth main mission. As you leave the first Battle Flag, you'll come to an opening with broken tree branches, and lots of mud.

Jump onto the first broken tree branch you come across, then look to the left. There's a clearing through there with plenty of loot, a Zhupolong and the Golden Cicada Shell just by the tree.

Golden Cicada Shell 16

The sixteenth Golden Cicada Shell can be found in Lu Bu, Mightiest Among Men, which is the thirteenth main mission. Just before the final Battle Flag, you'll make your way around a snow-covered fort and have to go up the stairs into the building. Before you go inside and take the last and corrupted Battle Flag, go the left of the building.

The Golden Cicada Shell is just along the side.

Golden Cicada Shell 17

The seventeenth Golden Cicada Shell can be found in Behold the Glaive of Righteousness, which is the fourteenth main mission. Once you reach the area that's covered in fog, you'll come to a Chang Gui that's pacing up and down. Just to the right of the Chang Gui, there's a ladder that you'll need to climb to get a few of the collectibles on this level.

advertisem*nt

At the top of this ladder, go left. Go all the way along the bridge (be careful of the part that will break), take out the Warlock and then go right. This will take you down to the Suan Yu, but in a much quieter way. Behind the pacing Suan Yu is a tower. Climb this, then look to the right. A soldier will be on the tree branch, along with the Golden Ciada Shell.

Golden Cicada Shell 18

The eighteenth Golden Cicada Shell can also be found in Behold the Glaive of Righteousness. When you reach the room with the giant Bronze Soldiers, instead of going towards them, climb the ledge on the left. From this room, go left again and into the next section past the red sac. The Golden Cicada Shell is immediately behind it.

Golden Cicada Shell 19

The nineteenth Golden Cicada Shell can be found in Decisive Battle of Guandu, which is the fifteenth main mission. You'll reach a path where giant Bronze Soldiers are on either side.

As you approach them, go to the right and look down to see a ledge with the Golden Cicada Shell on it.

Golden Cicada Shell 20

The twentieth Golden Cicada Shell can also be found in Decisive Battle of Guandu. From the final Battle Flag, before the boss fight, drop down to the right and go along the branch.

This will take you to the bottom of this section, where there is some water, a sh*tieshou Demon and a Shugui that appears. The Golden Cicada Shell sits in the pool of water.

Golden Cicada Shell 21

The final Golden Cicada Shell can be obtained from the Hidden Village. Go down the tree trunk to the right of the Battle Flag, and past the Blacksmith. Then take the tree trunk down to the back of the village.

Make your way to the tower, and the Golden Cicada Shell can be found at the base.

What to Do With the Golden Cicada Shells

Once you have all 21 Golden Cicada Shells, visit the Hidden Village and climb to the top of the tower (where the Golden Cicada Shell was). You can use the tree trunk that wraps around the tower, to get to the top. A Hermit from the village will be on top of the tower, and you can give him all of the Golden Cicada Shells. This will unlock the Ascension trophy.
