ARK: Survival Evolved: Megachelon - How to Tame, Feed and Breed! (2024)

German English

With Genesis: Part 1, the Megachelon, a giant turtle, came to ARK: Survival Evolved. He offers you as a player the unique opportunity to build a base on his tank and thus be flexible on land and underwater.

Find out everything you need to know about the giant tortoise in our Megachelon guide. But also how to catch him, tame him, feed him, and breed offspring too.

This is the Megachelon in ARK: Survival Evolved

Appearance: The Megachelon is a giant tortoise, with six legs and four eyes. Instead of beak-like other turtles, the Megachelon has a mouth with teeth.

On its shell on its back grows its own ecosystem with moss, grass, and bushes, but also rare resources.

Wild: Megachelon is a non-aggressive land and sea creature. Often accompanied by flocks of birds as they are attracted to the habitat on its shell.

Domesticated: Once you have tamed a Megachelon, you can build a platform on its back on which to build whatever you like. You can use it as a floating island if you don’t mind the slow speed. You can also dive with the Megachelon without any worries as an air pocket forms around its shell.

How to tame the Megachelon in ARK

Like other dinos, the Megachelon can be stunned and then tamed normally. However, since the turtle’s defense is very high, this method is not recommended. Passive taming is much easier.

For passive taming, you only need diving equipment, since you have to hold your breath for a long time. Find the Megachelon in the water biome in Genesis Part 1 and continue diving until you encounter a swarm of microbes. A message at the top of the screen will tell you when the time has come.

The very aggressive swarm of microbes will try to attack you. Then quickly swim back to the turtle. It’s quite easy, but you have to be careful that the school of fish doesn’t get too close to you because it does a lot of damage and in the worst case can blow out your lights. Even your mount won’t help you there.

Once the swarm is with the turtle, it begins to eat it and the taming process begins. To do this, you swim up to the turtle and tame it by swimming together.

Watch out during this because some creatures will spawn that will attack you, the microbe swarm or the Megachelon. To prevent your entire taming progress from being instantly erased, note the following:

  • The swarm must not be destroyed, watch out for the creatures that specifically target it.
  • You must not harm the turtle while repelling or fighting enemy creatures.
  • You can’t really prevent it, but if the turtle goes ashore it’s game over too.

How to Feed a Megachelon in ARK

Once you have tamed your Megachelon, it is important to know what it likes to eat. Megachelons are omnivores, which of course makes the choice of food easier, which means you can offer it meat, berries, vegetables, etc. and it will eat it.

Being a sweet tooth, the Megachelon prefers the Parakeet Fish School.

How to breed the Megachelon in ARK

How to prepare for breeding: Have a male and female specimen and swim them both to a deep place, underwater. Then you set it to “wander” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the pairing will stop due to the rendering.

The breeding interval for a Megachelon is 18 to 48 hours.

How to Hatch Eggs: When you get a fertilized Megachelon Egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. You can only do this at the deepest points in the water. The ambient temperature of the egg should be between -75 °C and 75 °C. According to standard settings, the small megachelon baby hatches after about 5 hours. After that, it takes about 9 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting food in its inventory. Pay attention to the embossing intervals every 8 hours to tickle the greatest potential out of the baby.

Once it gains juvenile status, it can feed from troughs on its own. The entire maturing time takes about 3 days and 20.5 hours.
